The Museum

The stamp is the 'place' where art, the will of the state, ideology and simple everyday life meet in an artistically arranged miniature world.

In addition to the stamps as the final product of artistic work, the artist's original drawings, watercolours, engravings, and sketches are kept and exhibited in the Museum. Museum form the basis for the final illustration of the postage stamp. The collections also include postal items such as postage stamps, post boxes, scales, machines, telecommunications equipment, etc.

Since the Greek Revolution

A digital exhibition of postage stamps relating to the uprising of 1821 that Greece has issued over the years.
It seeks to show what the Greek government has understood and sought to achieve through stamp promotion over time, and more specifically, how modern Greek government has seen and imagined themselves to relate with the 1821 revolution.

Smyrna was a world-famous city for Hellenism, almost replacing Constantinople as a collective trauma in collective memory.
The following small exhibition presents Smyrna through the operation of the Post Office. Despite the exhibits' fragmentary nature, the everyday life and the historical course of the city unfold through the presence/testimony of the postal service, always focusing on Hellenism until the destruction of Smyrna.

The exhibit of the month June

10 th June 323 BC Death of Alexander the Great in Babylon

A 2 drachma stamp depicting Alexander the Great, in black and brown. It is a reprint of the original stamp of 1000 drachma in black and deep blue color included in the definitive series of 1954 entitled Ancient Greek Art I.

About the Museum

Education

The Education Department of the Philatelic and Postal Museum (PPM) offers educational programmes for children (pupils) from 5 to 18 years of age. All participants will experience an unforgettable journey into the magical world of stamps and our Post Office.
