The History of the Museum

istoria

The Philatelic and Postal Museum (PPM) is a very exclusive museum of contemporary art and technology since the most famous Greek engravers, such as Tassos and Kefallinos, worked on the issue of stamps over the years, while old machines and postal equipment are also on display.

The Hellenic Post and Philatelic Societies have established the PPM for the collection, preservation and display of historical objects used since the establishment of the postal service in Greece. Officially established in 1966, the PPM moved to its current building next to the Panathenaic Stadium (Kallimarmaro) in 1977. In 2013, the Philatelic and Postal Museum was transferred from the organizational structure of the Hellenic Post to the General Secretariat for Telecommunications and Post. Subsequently, the Philatelic and Postal Museum Department was established (Law 4111/2013). Since then, it has operated as an organizational unit of the General Secretariat for Telecommunications and Post of the Ministry of Digital Governance.
