SMYRNA
Smyrna was Hellenism's world-famous city, almost
replacing Constantinople as a collective trauma in
collective memory.
In the exhibition "Smyrna, the City of the Postcards and
Post Offices", the city is presented through the operation of
the post offices. Despite the fragmentary nature of the
exhibits, both everyday life and the town's historical course
unfold through the presence/testimony of the Post Office,
always focusing on Hellenism until the destruction of
Smyrna.
The exhibition is based on the collections of the Philatelic
and Postal Museum and mainly on the donation of S.
Nikolaidis, with special emphasis on the documentation of
the material.
